Recently Randburg Squash took over the Gijima Invitation slot and has also hosted the tournament twice.
The tournament was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid situation but continued again in Randburg in 2022.
Regarding the above we must mention the name of Richard King who now plays at Randburg. He was one of the founder members of the tournament in 1983 (at that stage in NCL) and was adamant that it should continue despite the incidents mentioned. It was his suggestion that Richards Bay should become one of the hosts after he moved there and Randburg when he moved to Gauteng.
While mentioning names we cannot conclude the history of the tournament without thanking Henry Murray, also one of the founder members of the tournament, Graham Hocknell of Iscor (now Mittal) Vanderbijlpark and Harry de Jager & Klaas Vuyk from Newcastle for their unstinting support and organizing over the years.
There is a lot of tradition around the tournament and many friendships have developed between players that have participated. In the world of squash, it is very rare for a tournament such as this to still be running after all these years.
We can only hope that the younger generation of players will continue to ensure that the tournament continues, the traditions are maintained and goes from strength to strength.

The 2019 event was hosted by Newcastle on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th October 2019.
The A section was won by the Northern KZN team and the B section by the Gauteng team.
Old friends reconnected and new relationships forged – see article & photos above.
Great news was that Newcastle Squash Club (ex Monte Vista club/Iscor club) recovered the 'prime' court. The local organisers did a sterling job in getting the court, and the other 3 courts, ready for the tournament.
The prize-giving event was a great fun event. Who the heck's idea was it to bring vodka soaked in chillies?
One epic game saw Madeleine Naude beat her opponent (name unknown!) by 22-20 in the 5th.

"It’s been a fantastic tournament, with an overwhelming response of everybody involved. First and foremost, the organising committee of the Mittal Squash centre must be thanked for all their hard work.
“Like any other squash tournament, this event has had its challenges, but the amount of goodwill, the amount of energy, and the amount of importance that the different stakeholders have applied to this year’s event has been fantastic. “ - Graham Hocknell (2018 convener)
The winners of the A division was the team from Vaal and the B division was won by the Gauteng squad.
Results showed that the games were closely contested withonly a point or 2 dividing the 4 teams in each category.
Looking at the 2018 photo’s, one cannot but get the impression that it was indeed a “happy’ event, enjoyed by all.
